Mian serves regional Chinese classics with a menu that offers a range of dim sum, seafood, specialties, seasonal and local favorites. I have been to Mian for lunch. Dim Sum was very impressive. I was so glad to return for dinner.
The restaurant is situated at the Pavilion, we thought why
not start with cocktails at the outdoor terrace for a Friday evening.
Pu’er Tea and single
malt whisky, sichuan pepper, dried tangerine
Peel
The dark color cocktail looks like a strong Chinese wine when taken out of a Chinese pot with a tiny cup. It is rather surprising to taste the strong taste of whisky, followed by a very mild taste of Sichuan pepper and the aroma of dried Chinese tangerine peel.
Pear and Perfume
Trees Gin
Perfume Trees Gin is a pioneer local made Gin brand in Hong Kong. I met the founder, Kit Cheung, once in a bar in Soho many years ago. I still remembered the impressive gin with fruity favor home-made by him at that time.
Featuring the aroma of the White
Champaca Tree, this cocktail tastes very refreshing and looks beautiful. The pears are a bit bitter since they are immersed in the wine for long.
The indoor dining room is decorated in a very elegant style. With
a party of 2 only, we ordered 2 light dishes and a clay pot rice for dinner.
Chilled Mantis Shrimp Chili Paste English
Mustard
英芥椒香瀨尿蝦 $488
There is no doubt that this signature dish is worth her credit. It is pleasant to eat Mantis Shrimp simply because it is fresh and tender. There is an exceptional sweet aftertaste. English Mustard is a pleasant combination that really enlightens our taste buds.
Stir-fried Minced Pigeon Pork Liver
Sausage Crispy Rice
脆米潤腸炒鴿崧 $298
Pigeon is always a favorite of mine. The mixture of minced pigeon meat and pork liver sausage brought out a strong flavor. It made a big difference having the crunchy rice and crisp tart which add a lot of texture to the dish.
Clay pot Rice with Stir-Fried Hairy Crab
Roe
清炒生拆蟹粉煲仔飯 $398
The hairy crab's flesh is renowned for its sweetness. Also of value is the crab's golden roe, which is creamy and buttery. How could we resist such temptation! From this seasonal dishes menu, we believe a clay pot rice fits in.
To prepare a plain clay pot rice dish with a few pieces of salty pork belly only for this dish is an intelligent and dedicated decision by the Chef since the strong flavor will mask the unique taste of hairy crab roe. We love it so much, perfect!
Sweet Glutinous Rice Cake with Green Vegetable
玉玲糕 $88
This is my favorable dessert at Mian. This crispy glutinous rice cake is a lot lighter than we initially thought. Sweetness is mild. Around the chewy mugwort-flavored glutinous rice, crisp puffed rice, and the shiso leaf it is wrapped in likely give the confection a refreshing lift.
Staff is busy on a fully booked Friday night. However, they
are polite and service is hardly abundant. We have an enjoyable evening.
